photographer’s statementDonna Valentina embodies Spákona, the seeing woman, the Magician. Not in the stage performer sense, but in the Jungian, mythic sense. She understands hidden forces, transforming reality through knowledge, ritual, will and mastery. She stands between ordinary human life and a more mysterious order of things.
She evokes elements of the High Priestess: veiled, inaccessible, intuitive, sacred, withholding knowledge rather than displaying it. If the Magician is about power through transformation, the High Priestess is about power through mystery and guarded knowledge.
The sorceress is hieratic: a higher being whose power is partly created by distance, obscurity and ritual presentation. The veil protects her mystery, makes her more potent. You do not see all of her, you are not meant to.
